Announcement & Release
The game was unveiled during the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase. Sources differ on the exact event date, with one citing June 5, 2026, and another June 6, 2025.
Launch is scheduled between March and June 2027 on the following platforms:

- PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox PC)
This Spring 2027 release window coincides with the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII.
Story & Setting
Final Fantasy VII Revelation concludes the retelling of the original story. The narrative follows protagonist Cloud Strife and his allies as they oppose Sephiroth's plan to destroy the planet using the destructive magic Meteor.
The game continues directly after the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura stated that the goal is to bring together all previous Final Fantasy VII stories and converge them in this final chapter.
New Locations
Players will explore new locations including Wutai, Mideel, and Midgar via the airship Highwind, which enables free exploration of the entire planet. Players can parachute down to any area of interest, with Square Enix describing it as its most expansive open world to date.
Gameplay Features
FITS System
The game introduces the Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system, allowing characters to equip outfits that grant new move sets and battle enhancements inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs (e.g., Warrior, Black Mage). Critics have compared this to the Dressphere system in Final Fantasy X-2 or the Garb system in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The system also permits visual customization.

- Playable characters include Vincent Valentine (voiced by Matthew Mercer) and Cid Highwind, each with unique combat styles
- Seamless transitions from air to land
- Decision-based impacts on character stories
- Optional battles against the Weapons (Ruby, Emerald, and Ultimate)
