Security Preparations
President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden on Monday.
Law enforcement sources report that heightened security measures will be implemented, including a hard closure around the arena, road closures on Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and Secret Service-level screening for attendees. No bags will be permitted. Checkpoints open at 6:30 p.m. Penn Station will remain open with no expected service disruptions.
Event Details
The Knicks lead the series 2-0. This will be the first NBA game attended by a sitting president since 2015, when Barack Obama attended a game. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also plans to attend but will be seated in a different section.
Background
Security surrounding President Trump has been under scrutiny following two assassination attempts during the 2024 campaign and an alleged attempt during the 2025 White House Correspondents' Dinner. Trump previously visited Madison Square Garden for a 2024 campaign rally and has attended other sporting events since returning to office.
