Target Recalls Two Types of Up & Up Baby Wipes Over Bacterial Contamination
Target is voluntarily recalling two types of Up and Up baby wipes due to possible contamination with bacteria that can cause serious infections, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Friday. The wipes were sold at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com.
The recall comes after consumer complaints about product discoloration, skin and eye irritation, and infections potentially linked to the wipes.
The manufacturer, Sapro Temizlik Urunleri, and Target received consumer complaints about product discoloration, skin and eye irritation, and infections potentially associated with the wipes. FDA testing identified Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples.
While healthy individuals may only experience local infections from skin contact with minor lesions, immunocompromised individuals, newborns, infants, and young children are at higher risk of serious bloodstream infections, sepsis, or pneumonia.
