Pittsburgh Concert Controversy: Wallen Cancels Show After Phone Incident
"My team informed me of expected strong winds and I acted on the information available at the time."
PITTSBURGH, PA – Country musician Morgan Wallen canceled a scheduled concert at Acrisure Stadium on June 6, 2025, citing forecasted severe weather. The decision came just one day after a controversial incident during his first Pittsburgh show, in which he took a phone from a security guard and threw it across the stage.
Incident on June 5
During Wallen's concert on June 5, the musician removed a phone from a security guard's hand and threw it across the stage. The security guard had been holding the phone, reportedly to record Wallen at a fan's request using the front-facing camera.
This incident follows previous events in which Wallen has confiscated and destroyed phones, and a separate incident in 2024 when he was struck by a phone while performing.
Concert Cancellation on June 6
On June 6, Wallen announced the cancellation of his second scheduled Pittsburgh concert via Instagram. He stated that the decision was made after consulting with local officials and his team, and was based on forecasts for severe weather that could create unsafe conditions for fans and crew.
In a subsequent Instagram Story video, Wallen said that his team informed him of expected strong winds. He also addressed rumors surrounding the cancellation and denied claims about his behavior.
Local meteorologists declared a weather alert day for June 6, with forecasts predicting strong to severe storms between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., including heavy winds, hail, and an isolated tornado. The predicted severe weather conditions did not occur during the scheduled concert time.
