"I almost died because of it."
Seven-time Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles stated on social media on Saturday, March 29, 2025, that she experienced a health-related emergency earlier in the week.
Biles, 29, described the incident as "one of, if not the scariest experience of my life" and said she "almost died because of it."
Details of the Incident
Biles shared a series of images on her Instagram Stories account. One photograph showed her right arm with three medical-type bracelets or wristbands attached. Additional images included a screenshot of a heart-rate monitor, a collection of floral bouquets, and a bed with two dogs.
In her statements, Biles wrote that she spent the week resting in bed following the event. She thanked those who reached out, checked in, visited, or sent flowers. She noted that her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens, was in Indianapolis for team practices at the time of the emergency.
Biles indicated she would provide further details about the health issue at a later time, writing that she would "explain sooner or later." In a separate reply to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), she confirmed the event was a "health" issue.
