McDonald's manager burned by hot oil in attack by co-worker

A McDonald's manager in Yuba City, California, suffered third-degree burns after a co-worker allegedly threw hot oil on him following their shift on May 30.

The Attack

Jacob Smith, 20, sustained third-degree burns to his face, neck, hands, and shoulders. The alleged attacker, Jalani Bluett, 23, was charged with battery causing serious serious bodily injury. Bluett was booked into Sutter County Jail after being located days later.

Medical Response

Smith is currently receiving treatment at UC Davis Medical Center. He is expected to undergo additional surgeries, including a skin graft procedure.

Family Statement

Amber Smith, the victim's mother, stated that her son is engaged and working hard to build a life for himself. She said her son has remained positive despite significant pain.
