Canterbury Bulldogs Edge Past Parramatta Eels in a Defensive Grind

The first half ended 0-0, the first scoreless first half since a 2021 meeting between the Eels and Canberra.

The Canterbury Bulldogs secured a hard-fought 14-12 victory over the Parramatta Eels at Stadium Australia on Monday night. Stephen Crichton proved to be the hero, kicking a decisive penalty goal in the 76th minute to break a 12-12 deadlock.

The match will be remembered for its historic defensive intensity. It was the first NRL game in five years to feature a scoreless first half, a feat not seen since a 2021 encounter between the Eels and the Canberra Raiders.

Key Events

The game finally ignited in the second half. Sitili Tupouniua opened the scoring in the 49th minute, crossing for the game's first try off a Lachlan Galvin shortball.

Stephen Crichton added his own try just three minutes later in the 52nd minute, putting the Bulldogs in a strong position.

However, the Eels refused to fold. Tries from Tallyn Da Silva and Josh Papalii leveled the score at 12-12, setting up a tense finish.

The winning penalty was awarded after Eels hooker Tallyn Da Silva was penalized for a high tackle on Bulldogs five-eighth Matt Burton. Burton was subsequently forced to leave the field for a head injury assessment.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to a 5-8 record, moving them into 13th place on the NRL ladder.
