"Fairly brazen" – Police have described a daylight hammer attack in Warrawong that left a 44-year-old man with a fractured skull and brain bleeding.

Incident Details
- The victim was attacked as he exited a vehicle on Oxlade Street around 2pm.
- Two offenders allegedly used a hammer and other tools during the assault.
- The suspects fled in a white Suzuki Vitara before police and paramedics arrived.
- The victim was airlifted to a Sydney hospital; he remains in serious but stable condition.
- Due to his injuries, he has not yet been interviewed by police.
Investigation
- About eight hours later, police recovered the Suzuki Vitara after a chase in South Granville, Sydney.
- Six males exited the vehicle and fled on foot; two teenage boys were arrested nearby and a third was questioned.
- A 15-year-old was charged with driving and stealing offences; the other two were released.
- Police allege the vehicle was stolen from a home in Seven Hills between June 4 and June 5.
- It is unclear whether the teenagers were involved in the assault; police are seeking three other individuals.

Lake Illawarra Police District Chief Inspector Dave Cockram described the attack as "fairly brazen" and expressed concern over the severity of the injuries.
He stated that police are investigating a possible link between the victim and the perpetrators.
