Trump Administration Plans to Surge ICE Personnel to New York City; Border Czar Warns Governor

"You’re going to see more ICE than you’ve ever seen in New York City, and it’s coming."

The Trump administration has developed a plan to significantly increase the number of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel operating in New York City, according to Border Czar Tom Homan.

Homan stated that he privately informed New York Governor Kathy Hochul of the planned surge before she signed legislation restricting ICE operations and banning masked agents in the state.

"You’re going to see more ICE than you’ve ever seen in New York City, and it’s coming," Homan said in a Fox News interview. He confirmed he had reviewed an operational plan but did not specify a timeline for the deployment.

Homan has previously argued that it is easier for immigration agents to arrest individuals already detained in jails rather than conducting operations in the broader community. He claimed he told Hochul privately that he would flood the city with ICE agents if she prevented arrests of people in police custody.

Background

  • Trump and Homan have previously threatened to increase immigration agents in New York City but have not yet done so to the extent seen in other Democrat-led cities and states.
  • The announcement follows ongoing tensions and protests at an immigrant detention center in New Jersey.
