San Jose Police Investigate Fatal Shooting at Medical Plaza Parking Lot

SAN JOSE, CA — A shooting on the morning of December 12, 2024, left one man dead and a woman critically injured in the parking lot of a medical office complex.

Authorities responded to the 5700 block of Cottle Road at approximately 10:14 a.m. following reports of gunfire. The outdoor lot, shared by several medical offices, was the scene of the incident.

Upon arrival, police located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The male victim was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The female victim remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Investigators believe the deceased male is the primary suspect in the shooting.

According to police, the two individuals are believed to have known each other. The incident is not considered an ongoing threat to public safety.

The shooting prompted a brief shelter-in-place order at the nearby Kaiser Permanente ophthalmology and psychiatry outpatient clinics as a precautionary measure.

Police have not officially classified the incident as a murder-suicide as the investigation remains active.
