iOS 27: Dismissing the Now Playing Widget Comes with a Catch
In iOS 27, Apple has introduced the ability to swipe away the Now Playing widget from the Lock Screen and Notification Center. This action also removes the widget from the Dynamic Island.
The feature was noted in the first developer beta of iOS 27.
Currently, there is no direct method to restore the dismissed widget immediately. The only workaround involves pausing playback, waiting several minutes, and then resuming it.
App-Specific Behavior
The behavior appears to be app-based. For example:
- Dismissing the widget while using Overcast for podcast playback, then starting a YouTube video, will cause the Now Playing widget to reappear for YouTube.
- However, if the YouTube video is paused and Overcast playback is resumed, the widget may not return for Overcast, depending on when it was dismissed.
