iOS 27 expands landscape mode to more Apple apps
The upcoming iOS 27 update is set to bring landscape mode support to a significantly wider range of Apple's built-in iPhone apps.

New landscape-compatible apps
The following apps will now support landscape orientation:

  • Apple Music
  • Podcasts
  • Fitness
  • Health
  • Reminders
  • Home
  • Shortcuts
  • Apple Watch
  • Find My
  • Weather
  • Voice Memos
  • Apple TV Remote

Note: In Apple Music and Podcasts, landscape support is limited to the audio player interface.

Design changes in landscape mode
Many of these apps will display a left-aligned sidebar when turned sideways. In the Messages app, users can now collapse the sidebar to show only names and profile pictures, streamlining the view.

Comparison with previous iOS versions
Landscape mode was already available on iOS 26 or earlier in:

  • Apple Maps
  • Calendar
  • Files
  • Notes
  • Mail
  • And some other Apple apps

Potential implications for future devices
The expansion of landscape support may be related to a future foldable device from Apple.

Live Activities in the Dynamic Island
iOS 27 also adds landscape support for Live Activities displayed in the Dynamic Island.

How to use landscape mode
To enable landscape mode:

  1. Turn off Portrait Orientation Lock in Control Center.
  2. Turn the iPhone sideways.

History of landscape support
Landscape Home Screen was previously supported on:

  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 Plus

This feature was removed with the release of the iPhone X.

Release timeline
iOS 27 is currently in beta and is expected to be released to the public in September.
