Military aircraft crash near Rimrock Lake ignites wildfire

A military aircraft crashed near Rimrock Lake on Saturday, sparking a wildfire. The pilot escaped before the crash and was transported to a hospital.

The aircraft was an F/A-18 Hornet assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, according to U.S. Marine Corps Station Miramar.

The cause is under investigation. No additional details are available at this time.

Fire Response & Closures

The fire prompted closure of the 1200 Rd system on the south side of Rimrock and evacuation of campers. Firefighting efforts involve helicopters and engines from the U.S. Forest Service's Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

Naches Fire units completed structure protection near Bear Creek cabins. A water tender remains at the fire and is expected to assist with mop-up operations on Sunday.
