Record Sale of Super Mario Bros Cartridge
A sealed copy of Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Entertainment System sold for $3 million at a Heritage Auctions sale, setting a new record for the most expensive video game. FDA Approves New Sunscreen Ingredient
The US Food and Drug Administration approved bemotrizinol, a broad-spectrum UV absorber, for use in sunscreens. It is the first new sunscreen ingredient approved in the US in over 20 years. The European Union has approved it since 2000. The first US company to market it will sell it under the name Parsol Shield later this year, with other manufacturers following in 2027.
Fork of Vim Created Over AI-Generated Code
Drew DeVault forked the Vim text editor, creating "Vim Classic," after the Vim maintainers merged code generated by large language models (LLMs). The fork is based on version 8.2.x, with selected updates from the 9.x branch backported. Some newer plugins may not be compatible.
ReactOS Now Runs Half-Life
According to Phoronix, the ReactOS operating system can now run the game Half-Life. ReactOS is a free and open-source operating system designed for binary compatibility with Microsoft Windows.
