A vehicle containing a two-month-old baby was stolen from a driveway in Garbutt, north Queensland, leading to an overnight search and multiple arrests.
Incident
At approximately 1:45 PM on Monday, a mother was cleaning her Isuzu D-Max utility vehicle on Sunderland Street while her two-month-old baby was secured in a car seat inside. An individual entered the vehicle and drove away with the baby.
Approximately two minutes later, the offenders removed the baby, still in the car seat, and placed the child on the roadside before driving away. Paramedics assessed the baby as a precaution; no physical injuries were reported.
Recovery and Arrests
Queensland Police, assisted by a police helicopter, conducted an overnight search. The stolen vehicle, identified by Queensland registration 840A4B, has been recovered. Six young people are in custody in connection with the incident.
The incident was part of a broader event involving multiple stolen vehicles, which have since been recovered.
Investigation
Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage from the Sunderland Street area to come forward. Investigations are ongoing.
