Steam Next Fest June 2026 began on Monday, June 15, at 1:00 PM ET, offering PC gamers seven days to download and play free demos from unreleased games. The event features approximately 4,931 demos, surpassing the previous record of 3,500-plus from February 2026. Demos will be available until June 22, after which the Steam Summer Sale opens on June 25 and runs through July 9.
Notable Demos
Among Us Story: On Guard — A single-player narrative spin-off from Innersloth, released as a birthday gift for the franchise's eighth anniversary. Players take the role of Guard, a security officer investigating a murder. Three distinct endings are included. No full release date has been announced. The demo is available through June 22.
EMPULSE — A 6v6 movement shooter from 1047 Games (developers of Splitgate), launching in Early Access on June 24. The game features wall-running, grappling hooks, and mechs as contested map objectives. It launches at $19.99 with no store, battle pass, paid cosmetics, or microtransactions. The demo is available on Steam during Next Fest.
Other notable demos include Junkyard Stories: Rebirth, Endless Rails, and Field of Heroes.
Demo Discovery Mechanics
Valve's platform uses a machine learning algorithm to surface demos. For the first 48 hours, display is broadly randomized. Starting on day three, personalization based on user history and engagement begins. Games that generate early downloads and sustained play time receive more visibility.
According to game marketing researcher Chris Zukowski, the event functions as a momentum amplifier for studios with existing audiences (above 2,000 wishlists), while newer studios see limited gains.
Strategic Use for Players
The event is intended to help players filter games they have already noticed, by offering free trials before the Summer Sale discounts. A refined wishlist during demo week can guide purchases when the sale opens on June 25.
