Moore Wins Alabama Senate GOP Runoff

NBC News projects Rep. Barry Moore has won the Republican primary runoff for the Alabama Senate seat, defeating former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.

The Runoff
The contest was forced after no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote in the May 19 primary. Moore is now heavily favored to win the general election and succeed Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is leaving the seat to run for governor.

The Candidates

  • Rep. Barry Moore: Served in the House since 2020 and previously served in the Alabama National Guard and Army Reserve. He was endorsed by President Donald Trump.
  • Jared Hudson: CEO of groups focused on combating child trafficking and providing firearms instruction. He campaigned as an "America First" outsider.

Key Statements
"This victory is about continuing the fight for President Trump and the people of Alabama," Moore said in his victory speech. "We will work together to bring jobs back to our state and secure our border."
Trump endorsed Moore, calling him an "America First Patriot."
Hudson stated he would "defend President Trump with the same ethos they taught us in SEAL training."

Controversies
An outside group aligned with Hudson accused Moore of "stolen valor" over a military service discrepancy. Moore’s campaign provided records showing his pay grade was E-6 Staff Sergeant.
Moore also faced questions regarding a 2020 ad in which he said he had "been in those combat boots," despite not having served overseas or in combat. Moore later clarified, "I was never in combat."
