The children sustained critical injuries. Bystanders lifted the vehicle to free one child and performed CPR. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the children at the scene before transporting them to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where they died from their injuries.
The mother was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The driver was uninjured.

The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to a hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. He has since been released without charge, pending further inquiries. Police sources have indicated the crash is believed to be an accident.
The Crash Investigation Unit has established a crime scene and is examining the circumstances of the crash. Police are appealing for any available CCTV or dashcam footage. Four of the eight bystanders who assisted at the scene have been interviewed; police are seeking to speak with the remaining witnesses. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
