Kimba Launches with $6.5M to Reinvent Sleep Through AI and Scent

A new sleep technology company, Kimba, has officially launched, backed by $6.5 million in funding led by Selva Ventures. Unlike a standard sleep tracker, Kimba's device uses a novel approach: adaptive scent delivery powered by artificial intelligence.

How the Technology Works

The device goes beyond passive monitoring. It tracks biometric signals—including breathing, movement, heart rate variability, and stress—through built-in sensors and integrations with popular wearables like WHOOP, Oura, Apple Watch, Fitbit, and Garmin.

Kimba's AI analyzes this data in real-time, delivering precisely timed scent cues through the olfactory pathway to actively improve sleep quality.

The scent formulations themselves are water-based, plant-derived, and personalized to each user.

Early Results and Ongoing Research

In an initial study involving 50 participants over 48 nights, Kimba reported significant improvements in both sleep quality and cognitive performance. Two additional clinical studies are now underway:

  • A study on polysomnography-validated sleep outcomes
  • A study focusing on PTSD-related sleep disruption

A Personal Mission

Founder and CEO Ben Fuxbruner built the company on the principle that "sleep should be improved, not just measured." A former special forces commander, Fuxbruner developed severe insomnia after suffering a near-death injury—a personal battle that inspired the technology.

Relevance for Women's Health

Kimba notes that sleep disruption is common during menopause, perimenopause, and other hormonal health conditions, positioning the device as a relevant tool for women's health.

Pricing and Availability

The device is available for pre-order at $299, which includes a six-month membership and a personalized supply of scent.
