“Search your screenshots with AI”
Data is protected in a “secure, isolated environment on your device or in the cloud.”
Update
The Pixel Screenshots app, version 1.26.134.11, has updated its settings to allow cloud processing alongside existing on-device AI.
A new toggle reading “Search your screenshots with AI” now informs users that data is protected in a “secure, isolated environment on your device or in the cloud.”
Background
Google’s Private AI Compute technology, announced in November 2024, enables cloud AI processing with hardware-level security and data isolation.
It uses an end-to-end Google stack that includes TPUs and Titanium Intelligence Enclaves, with remote attestation and encryption. Google states it cannot access user data.
The technology was previously applied to Magic Cue and Recorder.
Implications
Pixel Screenshots continues to offer on-device processing when offline.
The change aims to “help you get even more from your screenshots,” according to in-app strings.
The update is not yet widely rolled out.
Recent updates to the app include:
- NotebookLM integration
- Read aloud for articles
- Material 3 Expressive tweaks
