Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Coming to PS4 and PS5 in July 2026

Activision and Treyarch have announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012) will be re-released as direct ports for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in July 2026. The ports are being developed by Iron Galaxy Studios.

These are direct ports, not remasters — meaning the original graphics, resolution, and frame rate targets remain intact.

Technical Specifications and Content

According to a statement from an Activision representative to Eurogamer, the re-releases are direct ports of the original games, not remasters. This means they will retain the original graphics, resolution, and frame rate targets, with a 60 FPS target standard for the series.

The ports are confirmed to include the full Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes.

Platform Availability

PlayStation

The ports will be available on PS4 and will be playable on PS5 via backward compatibility. Native PS5 versions have not been confirmed.

Xbox and PC

The games are already available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility (since 2016) and on PC. Activision has also confirmed ports for the Xbox PC app.

The original PlayStation 3 versions were previously only playable on PS4/PS5 via streaming through PlayStation Plus Premium, as those consoles lack native PS3 backward compatibility.

Pricing and DLC

As of early July 2026, Microsoft has updated the Xbox and PC marketplace listings for both games:

  • Base games: $39.99 each
  • Individual DLC packs: $10.00 each (down from $15.00)
  • Season Passes: $30.00 each (down from $50.00)

Activision has not confirmed final pricing for the PlayStation versions or details regarding DLC inclusion.

Pre-Existing Technical Conditions

Some Xbox and PC players have reported that the existing versions of the games are locked at 720p resolution and are affected by hacking. The older Call of Duty titles have historically been subject to hacker-infested lobbies.

It is unconfirmed whether the new ports will introduce new server infrastructure. The re-releases are not currently listed on Xbox Game Pass.

Unconfirmed Details

  • It is unconfirmed whether owners of the original PS3 versions will receive free upgrades.
  • It is unconfirmed whether progress from existing PlayStation saves can be carried over.
  • It is unconfirmed whether crossplay will be enabled between platforms.
