The Bush-Obama Letter at the Chicago Museum
A handwritten letter from former President George W. Bush to President Barack Obama, dated January 20, 2009, is now on display at the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
The Artifact and Its Placement
The letter is housed in the center drawer of the replica Resolute Desk within a replica Oval Office at the museum. President Obama made the decision to include the note as a gesture of respect, showcasing a tradition of presidential civility between incoming and outgoing leaders.
A Notable Omission
While the museum features the note from President Bush, it does not mention President Donald Trump. Furthermore, Trump was not invited to the dedication ceremony, which was attended by other living former presidents.
