At least 12 wounded in Chicago drive-by shooting on Juneteenth

An SUV stopped near a crowd on a Chicago street Friday evening, and two occupants opened fire, wounding at least 12 people before fleeing.

Among the wounded were eight men and four women, aged 17 to 47. Two males are in critical condition: one with a gunshot wound to the thigh, the other with unknown wounds. Another man sustained unspecified injuries and refused treatment. Four hospitals received the victims.

Police initially responded to a call of one person shot, finding a woman with two gunshot wounds to her back and a man with four graze wounds to his back, both in fair condition. Detectives are investigating the incident.

From Friday evening through the incident, at least 21 people were shot in Chicago, resulting in four deaths. The shooting occurred on Juneteenth, a holiday marking the end of slavery in the U.S.
