"Now I feel like the world is my oyster."

A mother of four from Arkansas underwent a $54,000 dental reconstruction after years of saving, following a childhood cancer battle and a domestic violence incident.

A Journey to a New Smile

Lacey Duvall, a 37-year-old mother of four from Arkansas, had dental implant surgery in May 2026 after three years of saving. The total cost of the procedure was approximately $54,000, which was partially covered by insurance; she financed the remainder.

A Complex Medical History

Duvall’s teeth were severely weakened by childhood Hodgkin lymphoma treatment and further damaged by a domestic violence incident in 2022.

  • Her childhood cancer treatment left her teeth brittle.
  • After the 2022 incident, she became a single mother.
  • To save for the dental treatment, she worked three jobs while attending college online.

After consulting several specialists, Duvall chose surgeon Samuel F. Jirik, DDS, who customized bridges to her preferences.

The Procedure and Recovery

Dr. Jirik described treating patients with complex medical histories as his "life’s passion" and noted that Duvall’s case required extensive planning.

"The bruising was not indicative of a procedural problem," Dr. Jirik stated, after a viral recovery video showing swelling and bruising drew nearly 5 million views.

Duvall needed one week off work due to the swelling and bruising. The surgeon reported that healing progressed as anticipated.

A Life-Changing Outcome

Duvall said the procedure was deeply emotional because she had self-isolated to hide her teeth for years. Now, she feels confident.

"Now I feel like the world is my oyster," Duvall stated.
