A 51-year-old man died after falling from an elevated area of Madison Square Garden on June 20 during a concert by the band Goose. Police have reported that no criminality is suspected.
Incident Details
The incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. in the 300-level section of the arena. The NYPD received a 911 call at approximately 9:51 p.m. Officers found the man unconscious and unresponsive with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position.
The victim was identified by authorities as Paul Kueker, a resident of Niantic, Connecticut. Kueker attended the concert with his wife. His two children were not present at the event.
Kueker was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigation
The NYPD is investigating the incident. Police have stated that no criminality is suspected at this time.
Response from Venue and Band
Madison Square Garden issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and friends of the concertgoer, noting that they await the police report.
Goose, which was performing at the time of the incident, resumed performing approximately 30 minutes after the incident.
The band stated on Instagram that they were "deeply saddened and heartbroken" to learn of the event and thanked emergency personnel and venue staff.
The following day, during a performance at SummerStage in Central Park as part of New York's SummerStage series, band member Peter Anspach extended condolences. The band announced that all proceeds from the SummerStage show would go to a fund to provide support and resources for their fans.
