First Round of Islamabad MoU Talks Concludes in Switzerland

A positive atmosphere marked the first session of high-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, with representatives from Iran, the United States, Qatar, and Pakistan meeting in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

Progress Achieved

The talks resulted in the creation of a mechanism for further technical discussions. The parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight on mediation. Chief negotiators will report regularly and lead working groups focused on:

  • Nuclear issues
  • Sanctions
  • Monitoring and dispute resolution
  • Other related matters

Roadmap to a Final Deal

The High-Level Committee agreed on a roadmap to reach a final deal within 60 days, with technical talks set to commence immediately.

A communication line between the parties was established to prevent incidents and miscommunication, with the aim of ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

De-Confliction and Regional Stability

The parties agreed to create a de-confliction cell, which will include Lebanon, facilitated by the mediators. This body is tasked with ensuring adherence to the termination of military operations in Lebanon as outlined in the MoU.

Technical talks will continue for the remainder of the week at the Bürgenstock resort.

Statements from Mediators

The mediating parties—Qatar and Pakistan—expressed appreciation to the US and Iran for their commitment to diplomacy and a peaceful resolution.

The mediators also commended brotherly and friendly countries for their support and contributions to the negotiations.
