BOWIE, MD — A Piper PA-28 airplane crashed in a wooded area of Archer Park in Bowie, Maryland, on June 20 at approximately 11:30 p.m., resulting in the deaths of all three people on board. The aircraft was traveling from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Airpark.
Victims
The pilot and two passengers died in the crash. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Incident Response
Prince George's County Public Safety Communications received an iPhone crash alert shortly before midnight. A search involving multiple agencies—including Maryland State Police, Prince George's County Police, Anne Arundel County Police, Bowie City officials, and Prince George's County Fire and EMS—was conducted using ground and aerial assets. The aircraft was located at approximately 3:45 a.m. on June 21.
No injuries were reported among residents in the nearby residential area.
Investigation
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are leading the investigation into the crash. According to Maryland State Police, the plane is believed to be owned by a local flight school in Montgomery County and may have been on a training flight. An NTSB investigator is expected to arrive at the scene on June 21.
