Last Known Photo of Missing Man Jack McLennan Released

The last known photograph of missing Queensland man Jack McLennan has been provided to the ABC by his workmate, Chris Duke. It was taken hours before his disappearance at Flicks Crossing.

Jack McLennan was last seen at Flicks Crossing, approximately 250 km north-west of Brisbane, around 10pm on October 4, 2024.

The Photograph
The image shows McLennan on a rope swing above a waterhole. He is wearing a hat that was later found wet and discarded in Murgon, more than 5 km away.

The Disappearance

  • Chris Duke reported that he turned to do something in his car, and when he turned back, McLennan was gone
  • Duke waited until about 1am for McLennan's return before leaving

Hat Discovery

Duke stated that he found the wet hat in his own car boot the next day while in Murgon. He discarded the hat in hedges, not knowing McLennan was missing. Later, Duke assisted police in locating the hat.

Statements by Chris Duke

"I'm not a killer."

Duke refuted suggestions that he had harmed McLennan. He explained that McLennan's car keys were found in his car, and he later moved McLennan's vehicle and left the keys for McLennan's ex-girlfriend.

Duke admitted to visiting a house in Wondai to buy methamphetamine with McLennan on the day of the disappearance. He stated that he and McLennan returned to Flicks Crossing around 8:30pm. Duke said he played a prank on McLennan and then turned to his car; moments later, McLennan vanished. Duke denied any argument before the disappearance.

He expressed guilt over the drug use but said McLennan was a grown man.

Recovered Items

The only traces of McLennan recovered are his white trainers, wallet, and bank card, found scattered hundreds of meters apart in different directions. His mobile phone, shirt, shorts, and remains have not been found.

Ongoing Investigation

Queensland Police has not declared any person of interest. The Coroner's Court of Queensland continues to review police findings. Police urge anyone with information to contact them.
