NSW to Temporarily Reduce Toll Cap and Scrap Administration Fees

View source

Motorists in NSW will pay less in tolls starting next year, with a new temporary cap set to save frequent drivers hundreds of dollars.

New South Wales (NSW) has announced a temporary reduction of the weekly toll cap from $60 to $50 for 12 months, beginning 6 July 2026.

Motorists who currently claim toll relief will save an additional $520 over the year. Approximately 200,000 additional toll accounts are expected to become eligible for relief under the lower cap.

Toll administration fees will be abolished from July, saving motorists at least $10 per notice. Last year, these fees cost motorists a total of $60 million.

Background

The measure is part of cost-of-living relief in the state budget, which is the final one before the 2025 NSW election. Motorists in western Sydney, particularly suburbs like Blacktown and Merrylands, account for half of all toll relief claims and are expected to benefit significantly.

Statements

Premier Chris Minns stated that the fees "never made sense" to him, and the government aims to ease financial strain on motorists.

Implementation

First claims under the new cap can be lodged from early October.
