New South Wales Budget Includes Transport Affordability Package and Energy Loan Scheme

The New South Wales government has announced a $561 million transport affordability package as part of its budget.

Key Details

  • Vehicle registration: Private vehicle registration will be reduced by $100, and motorcycle registration by $80, for 12 months. The cost of this measure is $435 million.
  • Toll cap: The weekly toll cap will decrease from $60 to $50.
  • Opal fares: Fares will be frozen at 2025 prices for one year.
  • FuelCheck: $2.6 million allocated to upgrade the FuelCheck system and enforce accurate fuel price reporting.

An interest-free loan scheme for solar panels and household batteries has been allocated $480 million. Homeowners with a combined household income of $210,000 or less can apply for a 10-year loan of up to $15,000 at zero interest.

Another $77 million is budgeted for cash subsidies of up to $4,000 for energy-saving upgrades. These subsidies are available to concession card holders and households earning less than $80,000 a year.
