Incident Details
On the night of 11 June, in a village in Begusarai district, Bihar, a 28-year-old mother of four (referred to as Soma) was gang-raped by five men who allegedly inserted objects into her vagina.
The attack occurred while she was in an outdoor toilet with only a curtain for privacy.
The men stripped, gagged, and tied her, slashing her chest with a blade when she resisted. Her husband initially mistook her groans for a cat's noise but later discovered the house locked from outside. A neighbor unlocked it and found Soma injured.
Medical and Police Response
Hospital officials confirmed the assault with objects, which were removed. Soma also brought a bullet casing, which she stated was one of the items used.
The case gained national attention due to the brutality and alleged apathy from authorities, as campaigners note that such delays are common for sexual assault survivors in rural India.
