NASA Names Sean Gallagher Permanent Chief Information Officer
NASA has appointed Sean Gallagher as its permanent chief information officer (CIO), effective immediately. He had been serving in an acting capacity since January.
Role & Responsibility
As CIO, Gallagher is responsible for NASA's entire portfolio of Information Technology products and services. He will continue advancing the agency's technology capabilities to support discovery, innovation, and mission success.
Professional Background
- Most recently, Gallagher served as deputy chief information officer for Operations at NASA Headquarters and senior advisor for Transformation.
- Previously, he was CIO of NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland.
- He joined NASA in 2012 as Glenn's deputy CIO.
- Prior to NASA, he worked at Booz Allen Hamilton as a senior associate supporting federal, defense, and commercial customers.
- Gallagher served as a Signal Corps officer in the U.S. Army, with roles including platoon leader and network engineer.
- He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from John Carroll University and a master's degree in computer information systems from the University of Phoenix.
