Diocese of North Queensland Enters Receivership, Lists Real Estate Assets

The Anglican Diocese of North Queensland has placed multiple properties on the market after being placed into receivership in late 2023. Colliers Townsville is managing the sale.

Assets for Sale

Cairns Region

  • St Luke's Anglican Church (inner-city Cairns)
  • Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Herberton, built 1889, listed on Queensland Heritage Register)
  • St Alban's Rectory (Innisfail Estate, modern residential house)

Charters Towers Region

  • St Paul's Rectory (high-set, four-bedroom house in Charters Towers)
  • Four adjoining lots totaling 8,092 sq m in Pentland

Townsville Region

  • Three adjoining properties at 30–34 Macrossan Street, South Townsville (combined 3,036 sq m, includes church hall, church, low-set dwelling – St John's Anglican Church Precinct, heritage-listed; current church built 1907 after two previous ones destroyed by cyclones)
  • 70 Bundock Street, Belgian Gardens (St Mark's Anglican Church)
  • 8 Endeavour Road, Arcadia, Magnetic Island (timber-framed church)

Bowen Region

  • High-set house on 1,022 sq m block in Bowen (major centre zoning)
  • High-set dwelling on 921 sq m site in Proserpine

Background

Receivers were appointed to restructure the organization after the church was ordered to pay compensation to victims of historic institutional abuse that occurred between the 1950s and 1980s.

Timeline

Expressions of interest close at 4pm on July 16, 2024. Additional church-owned assets are expected to be listed in the future.
