Women’s Historic Fixture to Break New Ground
The first women’s football match between Australia and Ireland is scheduled for August 1, 2025, at North Sydney Oval. The game will be played under Australian Rules with a Sherrin, marking a departure from previous formats.
Men’s Series Revival Delayed
The men’s International Rules series, last held in 2017, had been considered for revival in 2026 but has been postponed to 2027. Both the AFL and GAA are working towards a return, likely in Ireland for the first time since 2015.
State of Origin Commitments
The AFL has also committed to State of Origin matches in Perth (2027) and Adelaide (2028).
Key Clarification: Format Differences
The women's fixture will not follow the International Rules format used in previous men's series.
