Victorian Liberal Party in Internal Dispute Over Assault Allegation

View source

An internal dispute has emerged within the Victorian Liberal Party following an allegation that a member of the party room assaulted another MP at a community event.

An MP has made a complaint to Opposition Leader Jess Wilson's office alleging assault by another Liberal MP. The allegation was reported to Victoria Police on June 16. Police confirmed an ongoing investigation and stated the individuals involved are known to each other.

The accused MP denies the allegation and is considering defamation action against the complainant. CCTV footage of the event, viewed by the ABC, does not show any assault.

Multiple MPs have expressed frustration over the internal conflict, particularly with the state election five months away. Both MPs have declined to comment. Ms. Wilson's office has been contacted.
