Meta Develops Prediction Market App with AI-Powered Betting

Meta is building a new prediction market app that lets users bet on real-world events using virtual play money, with AI generating questions and resolving outcomes in near real-time.

The Project: "Antwerp" and "FBForecast"

Meta is reportedly developing a prediction market application, internally codenamed "Antwerp" and "FBForecast." Users will be able to place bets on real-world events, but unlike traditional prediction markets, wagers will be made using virtual play money rather than real currency.

The app, which is referred to internally as "Arena," represents a significant technological upgrade from Meta's previous efforts in this space.

AI-Powered Features

The platform will leverage Meta's own Llama large language model to power several key functions:

  • Automatic Question Generation: The AI will generate betting questions based on trending topics, reducing the need for manual input.
  • Personalized Recommendations: Users will receive tailored market suggestions based on their interests and history.
  • Near Real-Time Resolution: AI will also be responsible for resolving markets quickly as events unfold, providing near-instantaneous results for users.

A Rebuild After Previous Shutdown

This new initiative is a rebuild of Meta's earlier "Forecast" app, which was shut down in 2022. The original Forecast app was discontinued due to high manual curation costs, a problem that the company hopes to solve with its new AI-driven approach.

An exact release date for the new app has not yet been specified.
