Venezuela Struck by Second Major Earthquake in One Day

A 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit Venezuela on Wednesday, just hours after a separate 7.1-magnitude tremor shook the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

"The second earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located 16 kilometers southwest of MorĂ³n, Venezuela."

The initial 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck on Wednesday evening, causing significant structural damage. The USGS reported its epicenter was west of Moron, approximately 168 kilometers west of Caracas, at a depth of 13 kilometers.

In Caracas, the first quake led to building collapses. Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello confirmed that the tremor was felt in several states. He specifically noted that the Altamira neighborhood in Caracas experienced collapsed homes and buildings.

Cabello urged residents to remain outside due to the possibility of strong aftershocks following the initial event. The second, stronger earthquake has raised concerns about further damage and the stability of structures already weakened by the earlier shaking.
