Hyundai Unveils All-New Avante / i30 Sedan / Elantra at Busan Mobility Show

Hyundai has unveiled the successor to the current i30 Sedan (known in Korea as the Avante and elsewhere as the Elantra) at the Busan Mobility Show in Korea.

Key Launch Dates & Dimensions

  • Australia launch: First half of 2027.
  • Korean orders open: Third quarter (July to September) of 2026.

The new model is significantly larger than its predecessor:

  • Length: +55 mm (now 4765 mm)
  • Wheelbase: +30 mm (now 2750 mm)
  • Width: +30 mm (now 1855 mm)
  • Height: 1425 mm

Design: "Art of Steel"

The design adopts the "Art of Steel" language from the second-generation Nexo. Key styling features include:

  • Slim, vertical and horizontal lighting elements
  • Sharply creased fenders
  • Flush door handles
  • A six-window roofline

Powertrains

Hyundai has detailed two four-cylinder powertrains so far:

  • Naturally aspirated 2.0-liter (110 kW) with IVT CVT
  • Hybrid 1.6-liter (115 kW, up 11 kW) with an improved electric motor, transmission, and larger battery

A turbocharged 2.5-liter is planned for the N variant, as previously teased by executive technical advisor Albert Biermann in 2023.

Interior & Technology

The interior resembles the Ioniq 3, featuring:

  • Large touchscreen (12.9-inch or 14.6-inch options, up from 8.0 or 10.25 inches)
  • Physical controls retained
  • High-mounted digital instrument cluster
  • Distinctive dashboard padding
  • The angled center stack and prominent center console divider have been removed.

Infotainment & Connectivity:

  • Runs Hyundai's new Android Automotive-based Pleos Connect system, skipping a generation
  • Includes Gleo AI, a generative and conversational AI agent

Interior & Convenience:

  • New color options: Cognac, Ivory Rose, and Chalk Beige
  • Available Bang & Olufsen sound system
  • 100W USB-C charging ports provided front and rear

Safety & Driver Assistance

Upgraded active safety features include:

  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2 (slows for speed bumps and intersections)
  • Pedal Misuse Safety Assist
  • Memory Reversing Assist
  • Blind-spot assist
  • Blind-Spot View Monitor
  • Highway Driving Assist 2
  • Rear cross-traffic assist
  • Surround-view camera

Background

  • The outgoing i30 Sedan/Avante/Elantra entered production in 2020.
  • It adopted the i30 Sedan name in Australia to consolidate sales with the i30 Hatch.
  • The i30 Hatch's regular versions were phased out in Australia, and the hot i30 Hatch N will be retired in 2027.
  • Sister brand Kia offers both sedan and hatchback versions of its related K4.
