The Bear’s Rob Reiner and Wife Found Dead; Son Charged with Murder
In a tragic turn of events, Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead in their California home in December 2025. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with their deaths.
“As you wish.” — Ebra’s final line to Albert Schnurr, a poignant echo from The Princess Bride, a film directed by Reiner.
Reiner, 78, had recently appeared in three episodes of the fourth season of the FX series The Bear. In the show’s final episode, his character, consultant Albert Schnurr, receives a call from chef Ebra (Edwin Lee Gibson). Ebra updates Schnurr on the restaurant’s progress before ending the conversation with the line, “As you wish.” The quote—a direct reference to Reiner’s 1987 film The Princess Bride—carried a layer of meta-nostalgia for fans of both the actor and the director.
Friends and colleagues publicly mourned the couple. Director Martin Scorsese wrote a tribute published in The New York Times on Christmas Day, reflecting on his decades-long friendship with the Reiners. The tribute highlighted their warmth and shared passion for cinema, with Scorsese noting the “quiet, unshakeable kindness” the couple brought to their personal and professional lives.
The investigation into the deaths is ongoing. Nick Reiner remains in custody pending trial.
