New York
Coney Island Mass Shooting
At least eight people were wounded, including four children, when a man in a black ski mask opened fire on a family barbecue late July 5. A 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition after suffering a chest wound. The gunman fled the scene.
Florida
Targeted Attack in Pensacola
A 19-year-old was killed and six others were wounded in a downtown shooting after 1 a.m. July 6. Police Chief Eric Winstrom said the shooting appeared targeted. Victim ages ranged from 16 to 26. No arrests have been made.
Indiana
Double Shooting in Fort Wayne
After 3 a.m. July 6, police discovered one woman dead and eight adults with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds on the 2200 block of Oliver Street.
Two Separate Shootings in Gary
Police responded to two separate shootings early July 6. In the first, at 12:34 a.m., six gunshot victims self-transported to a hospital. In the second, at 12:49 a.m., a 10-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man self-transported; the boy later died, and the man remains in critical condition.
California
Deadly Party in Compton
Around 11:30 p.m. July 5, a woman and a man were killed and three others injured at a large July 4th party on the 700 block of West Laurel Street. The man is in critical condition; the other two victims had non-life-threatening injuries.
Fireworks Explosion in Chino
At 8:30 p.m. July 5, a fireworks explosion killed a woman in her 20s and critically injured two others. Derion Tradon James Jr., 28, was detained on an involuntary manslaughter charge.
Ohio
Shooting in Dayton’s Oregon District
On July 3 evening, four people were injured by gunfire in the Oregon District. All four suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Celebratory Gunfire in Canton
Late July 4, a 46-year-old woman was shot in the back while asleep in bed after celebratory gunfire. Suspect Darius J. Leishman, 24, was arrested for felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation.
Missouri
Teens Shot in St. Louis
Around midnight July 5, a 17-year-old boy was killed and two 16-year-old boys were dropped off at a hospital with gunshot wounds.
