Four U.S. Service Members Killed in Middle East Attacks
The Pentagon has identified four U.S. service members who were killed or are believed to have been killed in attacks involving Iranian forces in the Middle East over the past week. Their deaths bring the total number of U.S. troop fatalities in the region since late February to 18.
96% of nearly 100 service members injured since early July have returned to duty, the Pentagon reported.
Identified Service Members
Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30
- Hometown: Fayetteville, NC
- Circumstances: Killed in northern Iraq while disposing of a downed Iranian drone at Erbil Airbase.
- Unit: Assigned to 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg.
- Survivors: Leaves behind a wife and two children.
1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25
- Hometown: Ewa Beach, HI
- Circumstances: Killed in an Iranian attack at Muwaffaq Salti Airbase in Jordan. Enlisted in 2019 as a combat engineer before commissioning as an air defense artillery officer. Was posthumously promoted to captain.
Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19
- Hometown: Carrollton, TX
- Circumstances: Killed in the same attack in Jordan. Graduated high school in 2025 and joined the Army. Was posthumously promoted to private first class.
Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28
- Hometown: Ozone Park, NY
- Circumstances: Believed killed in the Jordan attack. Assigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment in Germany.
