Chris Anne Affleck, a former public school teacher and civil rights activist, died on June 2, 2026, in Truro, Massachusetts. She was 83 years old. Her family reported she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2025 and was given six months to live.
Early Life and Education
Born Christine Anne Boldt in New York City in December 1942, she graduated from Harvard University. She was among the first Radcliffe women to receive a Harvard diploma.
Activism
Affleck participated in the Civil Rights Movement as a Freedom Rider and taught literacy in Mississippi during Freedom Summer. She also protested the Vietnam War.
In 2009, she traveled to Palestine/Israel, and later became an organizer with the Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine. She was a founding board member of the Sustainable Cape project.
Career and Family
She worked as a public school teacher for 35 years, retiring in 2008. After retiring, she volunteered on the Obama campaign.
She and her ex-husband Timothy Affleck had two sons: Benjamin Géza Affleck (born 1972) and Caleb Casey Affleck (born 1975). The family moved to Massachusetts around the time of Casey’s birth, where she continued teaching.

After divorcing when Ben was 12, Chris helped her son begin his acting career by connecting him with her former Harvard roommate, casting director Patty Collins.
