Henry Cejudo, co-host of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, revealed that Kamaru Usman fought with a torn pectoral muscle in his UFC Oklahoma City main event loss to Dricus du Plessis on July 18, 2026.

Cejudo expressed disapproval of Usman accepting the fight with the injury, noting that the torn pec may have contributed to Usman's inability to execute takedowns.

Usman's Response

Usman acknowledged the injury but declined to use it as an excuse, stating:

"We roll the dice every time, so there are no excuses."

Fight Outcome

Du Plessis won by unanimous decision, handing Usman his fourth loss in five fights. Usman turned 39 in 2026.

Retirement Consideration

Following the fight, Usman indicated he will evaluate his future in the UFC. He said he wants to assess whether continuing to compete is worthwhile and does not want to continue solely for financial reasons.
