Mexican Fans Attempt to Disrupt England’s Sleep Ahead of World Cup Clash
Dozens of Mexican fans gathered outside the England national team's hotel in Mexico City early on Sunday, using loudspeakers, horns, and fireworks in an attempt to disrupt players' sleep ahead of their World Cup round-of-16 match against co-host Mexico.
Police blockades were present but did not prevent the crowd from assembling.
Similar tactics were used by Mexican supporters earlier in the week before a match against Ecuador, which Mexico won 2-0. The Ecuadorian football federation subsequently filed a formal complaint with organizers.
England manager Thomas Tuchel acknowledged the possibility of disruption but stated that he did not expect it to significantly affect the team, noting the late kickoff time.
