Amazon Agrees to $2.5 Billion Settlement Over Prime Cancellations

Settlement Overview: Amazon has agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement with customers who signed up for Prime and were unable to cancel their membership. The company denied wrongdoing but committed to simplifying the cancellation process.

Payment Groups

Automatic Payment Group (No Action Required)
Eligible U.S. consumers who signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, used no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period within that timeframe, and enrolled through a Challenged Enrollment Flow will receive automatic payments. No action is required from these customers.

Claim Process Payment Group
Customers not in the Automatic Payment Group may submit a claim if they:

  • Unintentionally enrolled in Prime or were unable to cancel through the online process between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025,
  • Used fewer than ten Prime benefits in any 12-month period,
  • Have not already received an automatic payment.

Key Details

  • Deadline for claims: July 27.
  • Maximum payout per customer: $51.
  • Notices will be sent via email or mail to eligible claimants.

Important: Pay close attention to the deadline. If you are in the Automatic Payment Group, you do not need to do anything. If you believe you qualify for the Claim Process Payment Group, submit your claim before July 27.
