A 44-year-old man, identified as Angelo, who had been reported missing in Darwin, was the subject of an extensive search operation that concluded with the discovery of a body in bushland at East Point. Authorities have stated the death is not considered suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Disappearance and Initial Concerns
Angelo was last observed on January 3 at approximately 8:05 PM, entering a service station on Bagot Road in Ludmilla, Darwin. CCTV footage from that time depicted him wearing a blue T-shirt with "Everlast" in white lettering. His disappearance was reported to Northern Territory (NT) Police on January 6.
Two days later, on January 8, police issued a public appeal for information regarding his whereabouts, citing concerns for his welfare.
Extensive Search Operations
Mobile phone triangulation of Angelo's device indicated East Point Reserve as his last known location, which prompted an extensive search operation. The search commenced earlier in the week, involving air, land, and sea resources. Police units from the Search and Rescue Section, Territory Mounted Unit, Cultural Reform, and General Duties participated in the operation.
The search efforts focused on East Point Reserve, areas behind the Minmarama Aboriginal community, and extended across the Ludmilla, Parap, and Fannie Bay areas. NT Police had also requested residents in the Fannie Bay and East Point regions to review their CCTV footage for any potential sightings of Angelo.
Discovery and Investigation
A body, believed to be Angelo, was located in bushland at East Point and subsequently recovered on Friday.
Police are in contact with the man's family, providing support as formal identification proceeds. The death is not considered suspicious, and a report on the incident will be prepared for the coroner.
