View source

An individual has been arrested in connection with protests in north Minneapolis that included the vandalism of two unmarked FBI vehicles and the alleged compromise of federal documents. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, following an earlier event where an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent reportedly shot a man in the leg.

Incident Overview

On Wednesday evening, an ICE agent reportedly shot a man in the leg in north Minneapolis. Following this incident, several individuals reportedly damaged two parked, unmarked FBI vehicles. A large lockbox was removed from the trunk of one vehicle, and attempts were made to open it. A second vehicle was also reportedly damaged, and a locked container within it was accessed, which was later found to be empty. Reports indicate that the damaged SUVs had graffiti on them.

Allegations of Document Compromise

During the events, a woman present at the scene displayed documents she claimed were from the U.S. Marshals Service. She described the documents as containing information regarding arrest procedures, locations, building access, and compensation related to arrests.

Law Enforcement Response

Following the vehicle damage, Minneapolis police deployed tear gas and pepper balls to disperse the crowd. The damaged SUVs were subsequently towed from the scene. Prior to the arrest, the FBI had offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible for the vandalism and the recovery of any stolen property.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

On Thursday evening, FBI Director Kash Patel announced an arrest related to the incident. One individual was apprehended for allegedly stealing federal government property from an FBI vehicle. Director Patel identified the suspect as a member of the Latin Kings gang with a violent criminal history, though the identity of the arrested person was not released. Patel indicated that additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.
