Senior Constable Carl Jones, 33, of Victoria Police, is set to contest three sex offense charges at a contested hearing. Jones, who was off-duty at the time of the alleged incident, was charged in October of last year.
The alleged offenses occurred on November 30, 2024, in Armstrong Creek, Geelong, south-west of Melbourne. Court documents indicate the charges include two counts of rape and one count of performing oral sex without consent.
Jones appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court. His barrister, David Cronin, successfully applied for permission to cross-examine seven witnesses during a committal hearing scheduled to begin in May.
A request for Jones to appear via videolink for special mention hearings before May was approved by Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge. Magistrate Lethbridge noted that accused individuals should be physically present in court for significant matters.
