Incident Summary
Police have charged 18 patched members of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) following an incident in Perth's southern suburbs on a Friday evening. The incident resulted in a section of the Kwinana Freeway being blocked.
Timeline of Events
- The event began at approximately 5:25 PM when police received notification of a large group of riders congregating at a petrol station on Safety Bay Road.
- Police dispatched significant resources, including the Police Air Wing, to the scene.
- The group was observed allegedly riding recklessly in a convoy, traveling north on the Kwinana Freeway.
- Officers activated lights and sirens, but the riders reportedly failed to stop, continuing at excessive speed.
- Two riders allegedly blocked police vehicles, allowing the rest of the group to proceed.
Police Intervention and Arrests
Police subsequently stopped traffic on the Kwinana Freeway near Millar Road in Baldivis. This action brought the group to a halt and caused significant traffic congestion.
Eighteen men, aged between 26 and 56, were arrested, and their motorcycles were seized.
Charges
Detectives from the Gang Crime Squad have charged all 18 individuals with:
- Reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.
- Failing to comply with a direction to stop.
Additionally, two of the men, aged 41 and 44, face charges of obstructing public officers. The individuals are scheduled to appear in court between January 28 and February 9.
