A four-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car at the Mawson shopping centre in Canberra's south. Police were dispatched to the location at approximately 10:20 am after reports of a car driving into a shopfront.
According to ACT Policing Inspector Nigel Booth, the boy, who was a pedestrian, was hit by the vehicle. Emergency services provided medical attention at the scene before transporting him to Canberra Hospital, where he later passed away.
The driver of the car is currently in hospital and is assisting police with their ongoing inquiries. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. Individuals who witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to police are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
This incident marks the second road fatality in the ACT this year.
